The Curriculum
Foundation Stage Reception/aged 4+
Children in the Reception classes are in the Foundation Stage and follow a curriculum which is based around the following Areas of Learning, which provide a framework for the Early Years' curriculum.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (including RE)
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Mathematical Development
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Creative Development
- Physical Development
Activities and learning experiences are varied and often cross-curricular. Well planned play is a natural medium through which young children learn and therefore structured play and practical activities form a part of the curriculum. More formal learning takes place alongside this and is built up gradually over the year.
In the Foundation Stage we aim to:
- Provide a warm happy atmosphere where each child feels valued.
- Provide first hand experiences -young children learn by doing!
- Provide a stimulating, challenging environment.
- Encourage children to think for themselves and act independently.
- Enable children to feel confident in themselves and their own abilities.
- Provide clear routines to ensure the children's safety and well being.
- Value children's play as meaningful learning.
- Give children time, space and opportunity to develop at their own rate.
- Work in partnership with parents so that together we can obtain the very best for every child.
