The Curriculum

Foundation Stage Reception/aged 4+

Children in the Reception classes are in the Foundation Stage and follow a curriculum which is based around the following Areas of Learning, which provide a framework for the Early Years' curriculum.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development (including RE)
Communication, Language and Literacy
Mathematical Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Creative Development
Physical Development

Activities and learning experiences are varied and often cross-curricular. Well planned play is a natural medium through which young children learn and therefore structured play and practical activities form a part of the curriculum. More formal learning takes place alongside this and is built up gradually over the year.

In the Foundation Stage we aim to:

Provide a warm happy atmosphere where each child feels valued.
Provide first hand experiences -young children learn by doing!
Provide a stimulating, challenging environment.
Encourage children to think for themselves and act independently.
Enable children to feel confident in themselves and their own abilities.
Provide clear routines to ensure the children's safety and well being.
Value children's play as meaningful learning.
Give children time, space and opportunity to develop at their own rate.
Work in partnership with parents so that together we can obtain the very best for every child.
